Massimo Osanna, Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Naples “Federico II”, is also Director General Museums of the Ministry of Culture. He directed the Special Superintendence for Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabia between 2014 and 2020, then transformed into the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. He taught at the University of Basilicata and directed the Specialization School in Archaeological Heritage of Matera. Osanna has carried out research at the Universities of Berlin and Heidelberg and at the Italian Archaeological School of Athens. He was Superintendent for Archaeological Heritage of Basilicata. He directed field research in Italy and abroad. Currently, he conducts research on the island of Rheneia with the Ephoria of the Cyclades and the École française d’Athènes. In Pompeii, he coordinated the safety and restoration of the main buildings, as well as promoting research in sanctuaries and public spaces. Author of over a hundred essays and monographs on the archaeology of Greece and ancient Italy, the study of ancient ritual, the reconstruction of settlement patterns, mobility phenomena and cultural contacts, and the management and conservation of cultural heritage.
