Francesco Tomasello, from Messina and former rector of his hometown university, is currently honorary president of the world federation of neurosurgery, author of more than 250 scientific publications, most of them in accredited international journals.
He has performed more than ten thousand operations as the first operator in neurosurgery, a field in which he has introduced innovations that have earned him worldwide fame and recognition, so much so that he was elected to the honorary presidency of the world federation by a large majority of the votes of the delegates of the scientific societies of the five continents. He was President of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery. In 2017, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award, first instituted by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS), ‘for outstanding contributions to European Neurosurgery’. In 2001 Member of the European Committee for the Accreditation of Schools of Neurosurgery. Since 2018 Vice-President of the International Society for Neurosurgical Technology based in Brussels. Today he is Rector of Kore University.
