Enrico Domenico Giovanni Nicosia is an Associate Professor of Economic and Political Geography at the University of Messina, with a particular focus on commercial geography, tourism development and sustainable tourism. His research focuses on the case studies of Sicily and Marche, examining cinema tourism as a means of territorial promotion and enhancement of parks and protected natural areas. He is involved in national and international research groups such as AGeI, Ciudad, Comercio Urbano y Consumo, Media e Geografia, and Geografia Medica.
He has extensive experience in university teaching, having taught courses in Human Geography, Economics, Urban and Tourism in several Italian universities. He has also taught at vocational training institutions in Sicily and the Marche.
In the field of European projects, he has contributed as researcher, trainer and teacher to initiatives such as the Erasmus+ project on food and wine and TWL – The Wine Lab, dedicated to research and innovation in the wine sector. He also participated in projects such as “Renforcer les capacités d’innovation de la filière Senteurs Saveurs sur le pourtour de la Méditerranée” and held positions of responsibility in the PRIN on trade, consumption and cities.
Nicosia is the author of over 120 articles and 12 books in various areas of geography, confirming his commitment to scientific research. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of series such as Narrativa geografica del territorio – Aracne editrice e Economics vs Culture di Eum, as well as being part of the Editorial Committee of the magazine Il Capitale Culturale. As a Reviewer Board Member of MDPI for Sustainability, he actively contributes to the evaluation of publications in the field of sustainability.
