100 Cellos is an ensemble of cellists born from an idea of Giovanni Sollima and Enrico Melozzi during the occupation of the Theatre
Valle, historical theatre of Rome founded in 1727.
The first gathering of a hundred cellists takes place precisely at the Teatro Valle occupied, in March 2012, thanks to a word of mouth
on the internet spread through social channels. The experiment, which initially seemed impossible, gives rise to three days of
experimentation and improvisation, during which the character of the project is defined, and arises in the great concert of 18
March in a Valle Theatre packed up to the last available seat.
After that first event the ensemble begins its journey that takes him in a few years in theaters and squares throughout Italy,
in europe and the world, with almost always sold-out concerts, always maintaining its original characteristics of open orchestra
and “transversal”, formed by great professionals, renowned soloists, students, amateurs and enthusiasts
