Forty years after his passing, Enrico Berlinguer continues to exert a charismatic influence on the Italian political landscape. Contrasting history with legend and news with hagiography, Sorgi offers a fresh interpretation of the leadership and political legacy of the iconic Secretary of the Italian Communist Party (PCI), highlighting the cracks in the mausoleum of the “last pope of the Communist people” and investigating the reasons that still keep the Italian left in the shadow of Saint Berlinguer (Garzanti).
